Things that will help you get the best out of your trip to Argentina
By Luciano Saldise
Whether you're a first-timer or a returning visitor, we all know that it's quite a journey to come down here. Some anglers make it an annual tradition, while others consider it a trip of a lifetime. Regardless of your frequency, Argentina is one of those countries that never ceases to amaze and gratify travelers.
Buenos Aires
If you're planning to head south into Patagonia in search of some of the best trout fisheries in the world, or flying north to connect with Dorados in the warm waters of the beautiful Paraná system, you'll be landing in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city.
With approximately 3.5 million inhabitants, Buenos Aires serves as Argentina's cultural and economic epicenter, solidifying its status as one of the most important cities in South America.
Rich in history, boasting stunning architecture, and pulsating with a vibrant gastronomic and artistic scene, downtown BA is a must for anyone seeking a complete Argentine experience. We always recommend that anglers stay in Buenos Aires for at least three nights to fully absorb the city's offerings.
From street tango shows to unforgettable asados and Malbec, strolling along Caminito, exploring Plaza de Mayo, or visiting Recoleta Cemetery—these are just a few of the experiences that will immerse you in the city at its finest
Late supper

Get ready for late-night feasts! Argentina is renowned for its penchant for dining late, with dinner times typically falling between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
Especially during the summer months (December through March), when fishing hours stretch into dusk, you're in for some seriously late-night culinary adventures. Argentina's cuisine promises an array of flavors, textures, colors, and temperatures that will captivate you from the very first bite.
Predominantly meat-based, you'll encounter a fusion of European, Asian, and Central American influences. Argentinian chefs take pride in cooking their asados over wood coals for extended periods, creating a timeless spectacle. Gathering around the fireplace (often outdoors), savoring wine, and swapping fishing tales—it's an experience that never grows old.
It's a vast country
With an expansive area of approximately 2.7 million square kilometers, Argentina ranks as the 8th largest country globally. While fishing is undoubtedly a highlight, your fishing adventure in Argentina can be seamlessly combined with some of the country's most iconic attractions.
It's remarkably easy and highly rewarding to explore attractions such as the Perito Moreno Glacier or Península Valdés while fishing in Patagonia. Similarly, if your fishing plans take you to the Iguazu waterfalls, you can't miss the opportunity to visit this natural wonder.
For wine enthusiasts, Mendoza province is a must-visit destination. It's renowned for producing some of the finest Malbec wines, arguably among the best in the world. With a plethora of vineyards and wineries, touring through them may leave you with more than a little hangover, but it's a unique experience that provides valuable insights into the entire winemaking process.
Mate time, everywhere, all the time!
Is that tea? Is it legal? Does it get you high? These are just some of the questions I've heard when people encounter mate for the first time. Truth be told, it's a herbal infusion: natural, legal, and can be enjoyed hot or cold, with or without sugar.
To partake in this tradition, you'll need a mate (a hand-sized bowl), a straw, and a thermos with hot water. The mate is passed around, and you'll get a couple of sips each time it returns to you. One person takes charge of the thermos, pouring a bit of water and passing it along.Mate, likely the most iconic non-alcoholic drink, is made from herbs that are harvested and dried, much like tea, but without the bag. It boasts a distinctive bitter, earthy flavor that may seem unusual at first. The water temperature is typically around 80 degrees, but you might also come across a cold version, especially during summertime.
Mate is about sharing; it carries a deeply social aspect. You'll seldom see someone enjoying it alone.
