General information

Los Roques is an archipelago comprising approximately 350 islands, keys, and islets, situated roughly 160 km north of the mainland.

Encompassing numerous square kilometers of coral, it serves not only as a favored fishing destination but also as a premier spot for scuba diving, snorkeling, kite surfing and bird watching.

The Fishing

Not your average flats boat, but bigger and more comfortable, pangas in los roques are mainly used for moving around and occasionally park and wait for the fish to show up. Most of the fishing in Los Roques is done wading on sand, turtle grass, coral and mixed up terrains. As a general saltwater rule, we always like to try and match the fly color with the one from the bottom, tan flies for sand, olive for grass and brown with orange for coral and blended grounds.

Keep in mind there are no poling platforms on the boats. So when you are fishing from the boat, you are most of the time holding position waiting for the fish to pass by, that's how most of the tarpon and jacks fishing is done. You will also find yourself anchored on a flat trying to spot tails and once you see them, is time to jump of the boat and walk to your target

Day 1: Land in Caracas, our ground transfer will be waiting for you to drive you to the Eurobuilding hotel which is literally 5 minutes away, right between both airports.

Day 2: The same ground transfer will pick you up first thing next morning and drive you to the local airport to take the 35 min charter flight. It's up to you if you choose to rig up quickly and go for your first fishing day or chill that day and go fishing the next morning.

Day 3 to 8: Your guide will show up at the posada to walk you and take the cooler box to go fishing for 8 to 9 hours.

Day 9: Check out from Posada after breakfast, head to the runway to grab your charter flight back to caracas.

This is a suggested classic week itinerary, though you can always extend your stay to get to enjoy the beach or some relaxed DIY flats fishing for a couple days.

  • Permit flies: Avalon, spawning shrimp, flexo, strong arm, merkin, kung fu crab, mantis shrimp, squimp.
  • Tarpon flies: gummy minnow, tarpon bunny, tarpon roach, andino deceiver, GT brush and any big shrimp, a couple of monster black flies for night fishing.
