First Things First

The rumors you’ve heard about trout fishing at Strobel lake (aka Jurassic Lake) and Barrancoso River (Jurassic River) are true. Memorable rainbows are caught on regular basis at Estancia Laguna Verde Lodge.

With it´s first class lodging, and exclusive access to miles of Strobel lake, Barrancoso river and a good couple of lagoons, LV is the true and best Strobel fishing experience you'll be able to get.

The place to fly into is the genuinely lovely town of El Calafate, in the province of Santa Cruz. This town has as its main attraction the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier, which is at a National park about 40 minutes from town.

The lodge has ten rooms, which allows providing single-room lodging (according to availability) included in the rate.

We offer an all-inclusive rate where all the drinks and meals prepared by our chef and sous chef are included, internet Wi-Fi at the lodge, all the transfers inside the estancia to the fishing spots, and the transfer from and to El Calafate – Lodge is also included in the rate.

Strobel Lake

After many seasons of hard work, the Estancia can offer access to more than 14 km of Lake Strobel, including several protected bays from the famous Patagonian wind (fierced by many anglers). In spots such as Monsters bay, Camelot Bay, Finger bay, Tasmania Bay, Sea Bay, Puesto Bay and Dry Fly Bay anglers can do outstanding sight fishing even in the hardest of conditions.

This astounding variety has made a fast growing number of anglers want to keep coming back, year after year, for more sight fishing for chrome monsters.

Barrancoso River

One of the Estancia´s highlight programs is the incredible Barrancoso River, the one and only tributary of Strobel Lake. This beautiful freestone river runs for more than 10 km through our Estancia which allows our guests to access most of its fishing parts. Anglers can fish until the last meters where it enters Strobel lake (Keep in mind that Argentinean regulations do not allow fishing in the river mouth and its surrounding 100 meters.)

In this dreamlike river with its see-through waters and amazing runs of huge trout, anglers can fish 3 different parts named: upper, middle and lower section. Those sections have 2 beats each with its own characteristic features, offering outstanding and demanding fishing all throughout.

TACKLE

Considering not only the size of the fish you’ll be targeting, but also wind conditions, most of the fishing is done with #8wt single hand rods with full floating lines and the very occasional short sinking tip.

Rods: Any fast recovery single hand salt water type rod will do more than fine. Make sure you bring at least 2 of them.

Reel: Any modern #8 wt with a nice smooth drag will get the job done.

Lines: Weight forward (WF) floating with aggressive tapers are a must. You can also take a sink tip type line in an extra spool just in case, some spots may need deeper fly action. There's no extra weight in carrying 2 of each ;)

Leader material: Fluorocarbon 20 lbs, 2X; 1X & 0X. (2 spools of each at least)

Fly selection: Big trout tend to be related to big flies, but this might not be the case. Most of the fishing all along the season is done with medium size nymphs, leeches and dries. So keep in mind you will need to get or tie them in VERY STRONG HOOKS!!
